More than 100 community leaders, medical professionals, and partners recently gathered for AdventHealth Daytona Beach’s inaugural State of the Hospital address — a milestone event offering a glimpse into how the hospital is growing to meet the area’s rapidly evolving healthcare needs.

Organized by the AdventHealth Daytona Beach Foundation, the event spotlighted recent progress while charting an ambitious course forward. With the theme “Here. When it matters most.” the gathering underscored the hospital’s commitment to expanding access, embracing medical innovation, and being a trusted partner to patients and the broader community.

“We’re building a future where everyone has access to high-quality care close to home,” said Foundation Chair Nika Hosseini. “It’s about excellence — in every way.”

A $220 Million Investment in Growth

That future is already underway. AdventHealth Daytona Beach is in the midst of a $220 million campus expansion that will boost its bed count from 362 to 466 and add four new surgical suites. By the time construction wraps in 2026, the campus will span nearly one million square feet — solidifying its place among the region’s largest healthcare providers.

Dr. David Sinclair, who took over as president and CEO earlier this year, said the expansion is about more than just space — it’s about readiness.

“Our population is growing quickly, and so are expectations for quality care,” he said. “This investment ensures we’re ready — with more specialists, cutting-edge tools, and a continued focus on treating the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.”

Recruiting Top Talent, Delivering Leading Care

In 2024 alone, AdventHealth welcomed nearly 80 new physicians and advanced practice providers to Volusia County, enhancing a network of 450 providers serving patients across 75 locations. Together, they cared for over one million patients last year — a testament to the system’s reach and impact.

The event also highlighted how technological advances are transforming patient outcomes. Cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Patrick Mangonon shared how robotic-assisted procedures are replacing traditional open surgeries for heart and lung conditions, leading to faster recovery and better outcomes. To date, Mangonon has performed nearly 700 such surgeries using the hospital’s da Vinci robotic platform — and was the first in Florida to treat long-standing atrial fibrillation with this technology.

The hospital is also leading in cancer diagnostics. It’s the only local facility using the Intuitive Ion Endoluminal System — a robotic tool capable of navigating deep into the lungs to retrieve tissue samples, allowing for earlier and more accurate cancer detection.

Innovation in Stroke and Cancer Care

Advanced stroke care was another focal point. Interventional neurosurgeon Dr. Erinc Akture described how around-the-clock access to interventional neuroradiology makes AdventHealth Daytona Beach one of the few hospitals in the region equipped to perform thrombectomy procedures up to 24 hours after stroke symptoms begin.

“Every minute matters in a stroke,” Akture said. “We use the latest technology to give patients their best chance at recovery.”

Cancer treatment is also becoming more personalized. With the Ethos™ adaptive radiation therapy system, doctors can now adjust radiation doses daily based on real-time imaging, dramatically improving precision and safety.

“Cancer changes quickly — and so must we,” said radiation oncologist Dr. Shiv Desai. “This approach lets us tailor treatment to the patient’s body, every single day.”

Giving Back to Move Forward

The event also touched on the powerful role of philanthropy. Hosseini announced a new fundraising initiative to support the creation of a Women’s Operating Room — a specialized space designed to provide dignified, compassionate care for women at all life stages.

“This project is for our mothers, daughters, and grandmothers,” she said. “With community support, we can make sure they receive the care they deserve, right here at home.”

Committed to Community, Focused on the Future

Ultimately, the message was clear: AdventHealth Daytona Beach isn’t just growing — it’s evolving to serve the community better. From expanding its campus and workforce to pushing the frontiers of medical technology, every step is guided by a deep-rooted commitment to people.

“As a nonprofit health system, everything we earn goes back into this community,” Sinclair said. “We’re not just planning for today — we’re building a healthier tomorrow for generations to come.”
