Nutex Health is looking to expand its Florida footprint with a new micro-hospital and emergency care facility in Pembroke Park.

The Houston-based healthcare company has proposed the project on approximately 2.1 acres at 3191 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd., near the Miami-Dade County line. The development would give Nutex its first hospital location in South Florida.

Plans call for a smaller-scale hospital designed to provide emergency treatment, diagnostic services and short inpatient stays without the size and extensive campus typically associated with a traditional acute-care hospital. Gresham Smith is identified as the project’s architect.

Nutex has also secured approximately $29.7 million in financing connected with the proposed development, according to information shared by the South Florida Business Journal.

Micro-hospitals generally combine a full-service emergency department with a limited number of inpatient rooms and on-site laboratory and imaging capabilities. Nutex has used that model in other markets, including its Starkey Ranch ER & Hospital in Odessa, Florida. That 31,000-square-foot facility includes eight emergency beds, eight inpatient rooms and imaging services such as MRI, CT scans, X-rays and ultrasound.

The company operates more than two dozen micro-hospitals and related outpatient facilities across 12 states. Nutex previously announced plans to establish multiple facilities in Florida as part of its national growth strategy.

The Pembroke Park proposal would bring a new healthcare use to a busy commercial corridor serving communities in both southern Broward and northern Miami-Dade counties. The project remains subject to the local development review and approval process.
