Broward Health is expanding its network of medical specialists in central and northern Broward County, with plans to construct new high-rise medical office buildings in Fort Lauderdale and Deerfield Beach to accommodate the growing demand.

The new Fort Lauderdale facility, located across from Broward Health Medical Center, will feature eight stories of medical office space and a seven-story parking garage. It will include 129 exam rooms for specialists in cardiovascular care, pulmonology, primary care, gastroenterology, neuroscience, and women’s health. The building is designed with the potential to expand to 237 exam rooms if needed. The parking garage will provide 700 spaces.

In Deerfield Beach, a planned six-story, 114,000-square-foot medical office building will be situated next to Broward Health North. The facility will have 75 exam rooms, with space to expand to 123 rooms for specialists in cardiovascular care, neuroscience, and orthopedics.

Both projects are pending city approval and are expected to open in 2027. The designs for the buildings will be handled by The Beck Group’s South Florida office and Fort Lauderdale’s DMZ Architects.

Shane Strum, president and CEO of Broward Health, emphasized that these new medical office buildings are a key part of the health system’s expansion, helping to meet the growing needs of the local community. “These facilities are critical to enhancing our ability to provide convenient, high-quality care and further extend our network of physicians and services,” Strum said in a statement.

He also noted that these new developments, alongside the creation of new freestanding emergency departments in Sunrise and Lighthouse Point, represent the first major new construction for Broward Health in 25 years.

David Clark, Broward Health’s senior vice president of operations, added that the medical office buildings will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and optimized for efficiency.

Broward Health, also known as the North Broward Hospital District, is one of the ten largest public healthcare systems in the U.S. It operates five hospitals, two trauma centers, and over 50 health centers and physician practices across various specialties.
