Turner Construction Company has officially broken ground on the new Baptist Health Sunrise Hospital in western Broward County, marking a major expansion of healthcare infrastructure in the region. The milestone follows a formal groundbreaking ceremony attended by Baptist Health leadership and local officials.

The more than $500 million project is designed to significantly expand access to emergency, inpatient, and surgical care, with the hospital expected to begin admitting patients in 2029.

At opening, the facility will feature a 30-bed emergency department providing full triage and around-the-clock emergency services, along with 100 inpatient beds, including 10 dedicated to critical care. The hospital has been planned with future growth in mind, allowing capacity to expand as demand increases.

Surgical services will initially include four operating suites designed for robotic-assisted procedures, with additional space reserved for future operating rooms. The campus will also include a 25,000-square-foot medical office building to support a range of outpatient and clinical services.

To ensure resiliency, the project includes a central energy plant designed to maintain power and mechanical systems during outages or severe weather, supporting uninterrupted hospital operations and patient care.

The hospital’s flexible design incorporates modern medical technology and adaptable layouts to accommodate evolving healthcare delivery models and long-term community growth.

“This project represents a meaningful investment in the future of healthcare for the Sunrise community,” said Kevin McCormick, general manager and vice president at Turner Construction Company. “We’re proud to partner with Baptist Health on a hospital that emphasizes resilience, advanced technology, and a patient-centered environment while remaining adaptable for future needs.”

The Sunrise hospital ranks among Baptist Health’s most significant recent capital investments and is expected to play a key role in expanding access to high-quality medical care across western Broward County.
