Mount Sinai Growing With Entry Into Westchester
Miami Beach is taking meaningful steps toward becoming a certified Blue Zones city—a global initiative focused on enhancing community health, well-being, and longevity.
Mayor Steven Meiner recently highlighted the city’s commitment to evolving as a health and wellness destination.
“We’ve embraced this movement through initiatives like Muscle Beach and major fitness events such as Wodapalooza,” said Meiner. “Now we’re working to expand those efforts in North Beach and beyond.”
The Blue Zones Project is an international program aimed at improving physical, social, and emotional health within communities. According to the project’s website, better well-being not only leads to healthier residents but also supports lower healthcare costs, increased productivity, and overall economic growth.
As part of its journey, Miami Beach recently launched Blue Zones Ignite, a six-month readiness and feasibility assessment that began in February. The city is currently reviewing the results and discussing future plans. At this week’s commission meeting, officials will hear a presentation outlining a proposed five-year partnership with Blue Zones and recommendations tailored to Miami Beach’s unique needs.
The city has already earmarked $220,000 for the initial assessment as part of the fiscal year 2025 budget, with discussions now turning to long-term investment and possible private partnerships to support the initiative.
“This aligns perfectly with our identity,” Mayor Meiner said. “We’re known for our beautiful beaches and vibrant lifestyle—but now we’re building on that to become a city that champions healthy living.”
With continued public input and strategic planning, Miami Beach is positioning itself as a leader in community well-being and a model for cities across the country.
