Walmart Health Inks Partnership With Orlando Health

Walmart Health now has a patient referral partnership with Orlando Heath.

The health care concept from the Bentonville, Arkansas-based retailer joined with the nonprofit health care system on a care coordination agreement in the state. The work will allow the retailer and Orlando Health to coordinate patient care in Florida with a goal of improving patient outcomes during the transfer of care between providers, such as if a Walmart Health clinic patient needs medical services at a hospital or to see a specialist.

“By collaborating with Walmart Health and focusing on care coordination in the shared patient populations, we’ll be better positioned to more quickly identify patient needs,” Cary D’Ortona, senior vice president of Orlando Health and president of Orlando Health Medical Group, said in a prepared statement.

Retail health consultant James A. Gardner told Orlando Business Journal that Walmart Health offers a lot of general care, but there are some services it does not offer at its clinics which a system like Orlando Health does. That can be beneficial because the partnership can direct patients who need specialty services to the hospital.

Similarly, Ambetter from Sunshine Health is also now a preferred provider for Walmart Health in Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Clay, Duval, Hillsborough and Pasco counties. Walmart has over 386 store locations in Florida with 115,866 staff members in the state.

$250M Miami Mt. Sinai Cancer Center To Commence Construction

The Braman Center, part of Mt. Sinai’s affiliation with Columbia University is breaking ground on its $250 million advanced facility in Miami.

The facility is expected to accommodate dozens of clinical trials for new cancer care methods. Plans also include advanced equipment, including two linear accelerators, MRI and PET/CT scanners, and a mammography center. Plans also call for 55 exam rooms, 56 spaces for chemotherapy and phlebotomy stations for up to 10 patients. The facility will also include less-clinical spaces for yoga and physical therapy.

The 220,000-square-foot medical center will be completed in 2025.

The project is backed by billionaires Norman and Irma Braman.

CannonDesign is the architect of the project. Brasfield & Gorrie is the general contractor.

AdventHealth Apopka Starts $26.3M Expansion

AdventHealth Apopka has plans for a $26.3 million expansion that will add beds to the hospital.

Altamonte Springs-based nonprofit health system AdventHealth has started to build out the fifth floor of the 120-bed hospital with 38 new acute care beds and four dialysis bays. The work will bring the hospital to more than 158 licensed beds.

The hospital hit 6,900 admissions in 2022, up 20% since 2019.

The expansion will enable AdventHealth to offer care to more patients close to home, AdventHealth Apopka CEO Parker Pridgen said in a prepared statement.

“As our west Orange communities continue to grow, we are committed to keeping pace by adding specialty care to meet the needs of this community.”

The 30,321-square-foot space will be finished by May and will create 20 new jobs in the hospital.

Hialeah Hospital Proposes Major Expansion

The Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus in Hialeah could expand with a new medical office building.

The City Council will consider several variances for the project on the 14.4-acre site at 1475 West 49th Place on Oct. 24. It currently has a three-story 247-bed hospital that was built in 1964, along with a seven-story, 38,000-square-foot medical office building.

South Miami-based Larkin Community Hospital, led by CEO Dr. Jack Michel, acquired the former Palm Springs General Hospital property in 2016.

In the proposal, the hospital aims to build another seven-story medical office building totaling 161,300 square feet. It’s seeking waivers to build seven stories, instead of the three stories permitted, and provide 725 parking spaces, instead of the 768 normally required for a project of that size.
