AdventHealth is laying the groundwork to expand rehabilitation services at AdventHealth Lake Placid with plans for a larger sports medicine and therapy space inside the hospital.

The move comes as demand for those services continues to rise. More than 3,000 people each year already use AdventHealth Lake Placid’s rehabilitation and sports medicine programs, and that volume is projected to grow significantly over the next several years as the surrounding population expands and ages.

To help meet that need, the AdventHealth Lake Placid Foundation is launching a fundraising campaign to support the project. The planned expansion is intended to make therapy services more visible, convenient and accessible for local residents who need care after surgery, injury or illness.

The proposed space will feature three private treatment rooms along with a physical therapy gym designed to help patients improve strength, balance and mobility. Hospital leaders say the added room should allow staff to treat more patients, shorten wait times and create capacity for future service additions such as lymphedema therapy, pelvic floor therapy and outpatient speech therapy.

AdventHealth said the rehabilitation program serves patients with a wide range of needs, including orthopedic and neurological conditions, pain management, cardiopulmonary issues, sports injuries, fall prevention and post-surgical recovery. After formal therapy ends, patients can continue wellness and fitness support through the AdventHealth Lake Placid Wellness Center.

Jason Dunkel, president and CEO of AdventHealth Lake Placid, Sebring and Wauchula, said the expansion is aimed at helping local residents recover closer to home while supporting the community’s long-term health needs.
