Orlando Health is preparing to expand its Brevard County presence with a new hospital campus planned for Viera.

The health system expects to break ground this month on Orlando Health Viera Hospital, a phased project planned within Borrows West, a mixed-use district located between Lake Andrew Drive and Interstate 95, just south of Viera Boulevard.

The development will be built on a planned 40-acre health and wellness campus and will include a seven-story regional hospital along with a three-story, 60,000-square-foot medical office building. At full buildout, the hospital is expected to include 240 beds.

The emergency department is slated to open in fall 2027.

Plans call for the hospital to offer emergency care, imaging, laboratory services, pharmacy, surgical suites, catheterization labs and support space for acute care services. The adjacent medical office building is expected to house specialty practices, including cardiovascular and neuroscience services.

Orlando Health is working with The Viera Co. on the project. The system did not disclose the estimated development cost.

The new campus is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs in the region. Orlando Health already employs more than 2,100 team members and physicians across Brevard and Indian River counties through Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital and multiple physician practices.

The Viera project is part of a broader expansion effort by Orlando Health, which also has hospital projects planned in Wiregrass Ranch and Lakeland Highlands, as well as an Alabama hospital expected to join the system this fall.

The announcement comes as Brevard County continues to address healthcare capacity needs following the closure of Orlando Health Rockledge Hospital in April 2025.
