$200M Expansion Coming To HCA Florida Ocala Hospital
HCA Florida Ocala Hospital is moving forward with a nearly $200 million expansion aimed at increasing inpatient capacity and broadening surgical services as demand for healthcare grows across North Central Florida. The project will add more than 470,000 square feet to the hospital system and centers on a new patient tower that will bring 62 private rooms online, raising total system capacity to 647 beds.
The new tower is being designed with both immediate and future needs in mind. Current plans call for a 16-bed intensive care unit, which would push the system’s ICU count above 100 beds, along with two new 26-bed medical-surgical and telemetry units. The structure is also being built to support as many as seven floors over time, giving the hospital room to keep expanding as the region grows.
Beyond the tower itself, HCA is also investing in its surgical platform. The expansion includes new operating rooms, space reserved for additional ORs later, enlarged vascular and procedural areas, and added pre- and post-op recovery space. Plans also call for upgrades to patient flow and clinical support infrastructure, along with a new 806-space parking garage to improve access across the campus.
Construction is scheduled to begin this year, and the project is expected to create more than 70 healthcare jobs, plus additional support positions. The move continues a broader growth push by HCA in the Ocala market, where the system has recently added inpatient rooms and jobs at West Marion Hospital and is developing another freestanding emergency room expected to open in 2027.
For Ocala, the expansion signals how hospital operators are trying to stay ahead of population growth by adding beds, surgical capacity and supporting infrastructure before space constraints begin to affect care delivery. Rather than a small renovation, this is a large-scale capacity play that positions the campus for continued long-term growth.
