Florida Orthopaedic Institute Opens New Campus In Heart Of Temple Terrace
After spending two decades in Telecom Parkway, Florida Orthopaedic Institute (FOI) is staying in Temple Terrace but relocating to a more central location in the city.
The institute has transformed a 84,227-square-foot space into a state-of-the-art primary orthopaedic campus, which officially opened on March 31.
“This marks a pivotal moment for FOI, and I’m thrilled about the direction we’re headed,” said Janene Culumber, CEO of Florida Orthopaedic Institute Central Florida Region.
The new facility, located at 5901 E. Fowler Ave., offers expanded services for patients and is now the institute’s main headquarters. It was selected for its central location, which provides easy access to FOI’s other facilities.
The campus also houses an outpatient surgery center, which will open in May and feature nine operating rooms—three more than the previous location—enabling advanced procedures, including same-day total joint replacements and spine surgeries.
FOI had been based in Telecom Park for 23 years, with the location serving over 100,000 patient visits annually. However, the need for more space and the building’s age prompted Alliant Partners Development, a real estate firm from Ybor City, to purchase the new site for $13.2 million in 2023.
Patients transitioning from the Telecom location to the new campus can expect nearly everything to be upgraded, including the latest MRI technology, which offers a wider opening and shorter scan times, according to spokesperson Michaela Meigs.
The new facility features:
- 59 exam rooms
- An orthopedic urgent care center
- Advanced diagnostic imaging
- Expanded physical and occupational therapy
- Six clinic zones
- Four X-ray rooms
- Two large three-bed cast rooms
- CT scanner (moved from the Telecom Parkway location)
- Fluoroscopy procedure room
Physical therapy services at the new location include:
- Hand and upper extremity therapy
- A 5,500-square-foot therapy center with upgraded equipment
- A spacious therapy reception area
“For over 30 years, Temple Terrace has been our home, and this expansion marks an important milestone in our ongoing mission to provide top-tier orthopedic care,” said Dr. Roy Sanders, president and founding member of FOI. “With this new facility, we can serve the growing community more effectively, offering comprehensive care in one convenient location.”
