Bluebird Kids Health To Expand By Opening New Pediatric Clinics

Just a year after its launch, Bluebird Kids Health is making major strides in its mission to close gaps in pediatric healthcare. The Florida-based startup has announced it will double its number of clinics — from three to six — with new locations opening this summer in Jacksonville and Broward County.

Bluebird was founded with a clear goal: bring high-quality, accessible pediatric care to underserved communities. Many families with Medicaid coverage struggle to find pediatricians who accept their insurance, resulting in “care deserts” where emergency rooms become the default for basic health needs. This can saddle families with debt and lead to long-term negative impacts on children’s education, family stability, and community health.

Founder and CEO Chris Johnson said the company is determined to change that narrative.

“We’re building clinics in neighborhoods that have been left behind by the traditional healthcare system,” he explained. “Our doors are open to everyone, regardless of insurance.”

Bluebird’s model centers on value-based care, integrating behavioral health services into its pediatric offerings — a critical gap for Medicaid patients. Since opening its first clinics in Palm Beach County, Bluebird has already served over 20,000 patients. The clinics are intentionally located in high-traffic retail areas with access to public transit, and they offer extended hours, walk-in availability, and virtual care options to improve convenience for families.

The company’s approach is already delivering measurable results. Johnson reports a more than 50% drop in emergency department visits and a nearly 70% reduction in hospital admissions among Bluebird patients, thanks to proactive treatment of conditions like asthma and anxiety.

These strong early outcomes, along with a parent satisfaction score above 90%, helped Bluebird secure $31.5 million in Series A funding earlier this year. With momentum building, the company is eyeing future expansion into other underserved states including Georgia, Texas, Virginia, and the Carolinas.

As demand for pediatric care continues to grow — particularly in communities that have historically been overlooked — Bluebird is proving that thoughtful, community-centered innovation can drive both better access and better outcomes.
