Baptist Health Plans To Open Its First Hospital In Broward County
Baptist Health South Florida is moving forward with plans to establish its first hospital in Broward County, with the Sunrise City Commission set to review the site plan and special exception for the facility on September 24. The city had previously approved the sale of a 26.3-acre property at 12401 W. Oakland Park Blvd. to the Miami-based nonprofit for $13.75 million, specifically for this hospital project. Baptist Health will have 30 days to finalize the deal after receiving development approvals.
Located near the Sawgrass Expressway, the vacant site will allocate approximately 15.6 acres for conservation purposes. The proposed Baptist Hospital Sunrise will encompass 340,303 square feet across seven stories and feature 100 beds. Key facilities will include an emergency department, imaging services, critical care units, surgical suites, a laboratory, and respiratory therapy.
In addition to the hospital, the project plans for a 37,530-square-foot medical office building and ample parking, with a total of 1,050 spaces, including 993 in a five-story garage. The hospital cafeteria will offer outdoor dining overlooking a reflecting pool.
Designed by HKS Architects of Coral Gables, the project aims to enhance healthcare access in the community.
As the largest hospital operator in South Florida, Baptist Health manages 12 hospitals, employs over 27,000 staff, and partners with around 4,000 physicians across more than 200 outpatient centers, urgent care facilities, and medical practices. While the organization has operated outpatient services in Broward County for several years, this will mark its inaugural hospital in the area.
