Nicklaus Children’s Hospital has officially opened the Kenneth C. Griffin Surgical Tower, a state-of-the-art facility spanning 131,000 square feet.

This five-story tower features 12 advanced operating suites, designed to accommodate over 16,000 surgeries each year, along with 18 inpatient rooms. The tower is named in honor of billionaire Kenneth C. Griffin, CEO of Citadel, a Miami-based hedge fund, following his generous $25 million donation to the nonprofit hospital.

Dr. Stephen George, the medical director of surgical services and pediatric spinal surgery at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, emphasized that each operating room is equipped with cutting-edge technology, including robotics, augmented reality, and intraoperative imaging. Unlike many hospitals, these rooms can be configured for any type of procedure.

Each operating room measures approximately 800 square feet. The surgical center will support a variety of specialties, including cancer treatment, trauma care, plastic surgery, cleft lip and palate procedures, orthopedics, spine, brain, and heart surgeries.

The project was designed by Perkins & Will Miami, with Birmingham, Alabama-based Brasfield & Gorrie serving as the general contractor.
