Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital is strengthening its presence in Palm Beach County by integrating 14 pediatric cardiac physicians and over 40 staff from Pediatrix Medical Group.

This expansion enhances the hospital’s Heart Institute, which offers specialized cardiac care, including fetal imaging, heart transplants, and congenital heart disease treatment.

The hospital’s growth in Palm Beach County began with Boca Raton offices over 20 years ago, followed by a Wellington clinic in 2019. Initially catering to sports injuries, the center rapidly expanded to meet high demand for specialty care, adding services in neurosurgery, endocrinology, and rehabilitation.

The demand for pediatric specialty care surged post-pandemic as families relocated to Florida. Hospital executives aim to ensure children receive comprehensive care locally, reducing the need for out-of-state treatment. Currently, 50 to 60 staff operate in Palm Beach County, collaborating with schools and community organizations.

Joe DiMaggio faces competition from out-of-state providers like NYU Langone and Cleveland Clinic, as well as for-profit companies such as Tenet Healthcare. Despite the influx of healthcare providers, Palm Beach County lacks a dedicated non-profit children’s hospital. Joe DiMaggio and Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Hospital remain the region’s primary non-profit pediatric care providers.

With continued expansion, Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital remains committed to addressing pediatric healthcare needs in Palm Beach County.
