Walmart Looks To Tampa Bay For Doctor Office Expansion
A year after Walmart opened its first health center in Georgia, the retailer announced it is looking to Tampa for future locations.
Walmart had already announced it would open Florida’s first Walmart Health in Jacksonville next year. Walmart Health centers — which have full-service doctors offices — have opened in five locations in Georgia and one in its home state of Arkansas. Walmart says its health care offerings help fill the country’s gaps in health care by targeting undeserved areas.
“Walmart Health is having a real impact on increasing access to care in our communities, and there are more neighbors who need our help,” Walmart said in a blog post. “The past few months in particular have exposed the vulnerabilities of our healthcare system and left many without access to adequate health resources.”
In that same post, Walmart said its planning seven total Jacksonville health centers as well as beginning the conversations to expand in Tampa Bay and Orlando.
“Our new health centers will be in communities in need of affordable, accessible preventive care, which we will help deliver through Walmart Health,” the company said.
Walmart advertises low and transparent prices regardless of health insurance. The facilities are attached to its stores and offer primary care, urgent care, labs, X-rays and counseling, as well as dental, optical and hearing services.
